GifJotBack to GifJot

Let’s get your capture working.

GifJot is a menu-bar app for macOS 14 or later. It records a selected screen region as a GIF or silent MP4, or captures it as a PNG.

Start here

  1. Open GifJot from the icon in the macOS menu bar.
  2. Choose GIF, MP4, or PNG, then drag around the useful area.
  3. Allow Screen Recording in System Settings when macOS asks, then quit and reopen GifJot if the permission panel tells you to.
  4. Find the completed file in the folder shown by GifJot.

If the screen stays blank

Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording and make sure GifJot is enabled. Quit GifJot completely and reopen it after changing the permission.

Direct and App Store editions

Both editions create local GIF, silent MP4, and PNG files and include Jot annotations. The direct-download edition also includes automatic Scrolling Area capture. That feature is not available in the sandboxed Mac App Store edition.
