Your captures stay on your Mac.
GifJot does not require an account and does not upload your screen captures. It has no advertising, app analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting service.
What the app processes
GifJot processes the pixels inside the screen region you choose, along with local timing, size, and capture settings needed to make your GIF, silent MP4, or PNG. Temporary recording frames are removed after export, cancellation, or failure.
Finished files stay in your chosen folder until you move or delete them. The direct-download edition uses ~/GifJot by default. The Mac App Store edition uses Downloads/GifJot by default and stores a local security-scoped bookmark if you choose another folder.
Permissions
macOS requires Screen Recording permission before GifJot can capture a selected region. GifJot does not request microphone, camera, contacts, or location access, and MP4 recordings contain no audio.
The direct-download edition requests Accessibility permission only if you choose its automatic Scrolling Area feature. The Mac App Store edition does not include automatic scrolling and does not request Accessibility access.
Network activity
The Mac App Store edition has no independent update service or third-party runtime dependency. Apple handles its purchase, download, and updates. The direct-download edition checks a signed GitHub release feed through Sparkle; it does not include capture pixels, filenames, annotations, or usage events in those requests.
Choosing Send Feedback opens an editable draft in your email app. GifJot does not attach a capture or send the message for you.
Website analytics
gifjot.com uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate page views and a small set of website actions. Website analytics are separate from the app and never receive captures, filenames, annotations, capture settings, or in-app usage events.
